Currently enjoying significant and deserved success on Kickstarter, The A-Z of The Designers Republic is probably the book you need this year.
We don’t need to introduce Ian Anderson and TDR to you, do we? The graphic design studio behind The Orb, PWEI, Pulp, Supergrass, and many of the artists on Warp Records including Aphex Twin, as well as the Warp identity itself. Oh, and Sony’s Wipeout series for PlayStation, and a bevvy of other works for corporate clients as well as generally pissing around.
The book, all 512 pages (!!) of it, is to be published by Adrian Shaugnessy’s design imprint Unit. Whilst the tiers have yet to be worked out, a TDR goodie bag of random stuff is promised. Who knows what you’ll get in that? Anything from a Sample it Loop it Mix it Fuck it badge, to a People’s Republic poster, or if you’re lucky, one of Ian’s pubes.
It follows on from Work Buy Consume Die, a film by Nicola Paton on Ian and TDR which we covered back in 2013. Kickstarter’s pledge total for the book is currently at $65k, with the $80k investment threshold needing to be reached by early December. That’s a given. Almost.
